24Hours
Reduction of time in hospital after an ERAS® Cardiac program was initiated.
It takes a large team of healthcare professionals to care for someone having heart surgery. Through a combination of knowledge, hard work, and cooperation, patients can have the best recovery possible.
The Society for Enhanced Recovery After Cardiac Surgery (ERAS® Cardiac) mission is to optimize perioperative care of cardiac surgical patients through collaborative discovery, analysis, expert consensus, and dissemination of best practices.

On September 30th, 2024 the International Society of Heart & Lung Transplant (ISHLT) and ERAS Cardiac collaborated on a webinar: "Enhanced Recovery after Cardiac Surgery in Advanced Heart & Lung Failure Surgery."
Enhanced Recovery after Cardiac Surgery (ERAS) is gaining increasing importance in general cardiac surgery. There is little experience for patients with advanced heart and lung failure. This webinar covers different aspects of ERAS in the setting of advanced heart and lung failure surgery.

NEW Cardiac ERAS Turnkey Order Sets now available!
NEW Cardiac ERAS Turnkey Order Sets now available!
To assist clinicians in bringing existing guidelines and best practice recommendations to the bedside, ERAS Cardiac has created a series of "Turnkey Order Sets". These order sets have been created following review of the existing evidence, and provide a guide for implementation of these ERAS elements.
To assist with implementation of cardiac enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS), we have created a sample turn key order set (TKO). The order set has been translated by subject matter experts using accumulated evidence, peer-reviewed literature, and current enhanced recovery practices.
TKO's for Prevention of Post-operative Atrial Fibrillation and Patient Blood Management have recently been published.
ERAS Cardiac is currently working on new TKO's that will be available soon, including multimodal analgesia, infection prevention, and pre-operative medication instructions.

NEW ERAS Cardiac, ERAS Society, and STS Expert Consensus Statement
STS Annual Meeting, January 28, 2024.
San Antonio, USA
In 2019, the ERAS Cardiac Society published their original guidance, which reviewed the literature and provided recommendations regarding care elements for patients undergoing cardiac surgery. In the interim, new clinical data as well as recognition of additional potential perioperative strategies have necessitated an update. The ERAS Cardiac Society, in collaboration with the affiliated ERAS International Society, has assembled a committee of experts to develop a consensus statement to optimize care for the adult cardiac surgical patient.
Our ERAS Cardiac Society members care about helping patients achieve the best recovery possible, and to help their healthcare team achieve this goal. To do this we have reviewed hundreds of publications to come up with a set of recommendations that we think can help improve the care and recovery of patients having heart surgery. We work hard everyday with experts around the world to find new ways to optimize the care people receive when they have their surgery.
