A Clinical Resource to Support Patient Understanding
The following short videos were developed to support cardiac surgery patients in understanding their care, from preoperative preparation to postoperative recovery.
Each video features practical tips and guidance on topics such as surgical site infection prevention, multimodal pain management, nutrition, physical activity, and more. The information is delivered in a clear, patient-friendly format and reflects guidance from experienced clinicians in the ERAS® Cardiac Society community — including cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurse practitioners, and clinical nurse leaders who care for patients throughout the surgical journey.
How to Use This Resource
These videos are intended to:
- Supplement provider-led discussions during the perioperative period
- Serve as educational tools before hospital admission or during pre-op clinic visits
- Reinforce key ERAS Cardiac principles at discharge or during follow-up
- Support caregiver education and shared decision-making
- Be shared digitally via email, patient portals, QR codes, or printed flyers with video links
Providers are encouraged to share videos most relevant to each patient's clinical journey and encourage open dialogue to personalize education and address questions or concerns.
