Do less restrictive sternal precautions mean more pain after cardiac surgery? In the T-REX Twente randomized trial, they did not.Frank Halfwerk, PhD, shared the first full trial results at last month's ERAS Cardiac Monthly Multidisciplinary Meeting. Patients who could push, pull, and lift with their elbows at their sides reported no more pain or fear of movement than patients under usual care.Watch the recording: Link in bio#ERASCardiac #CardiacSurgery #EnhancedRecovery #EarlyMobilization #SternalPrecautions

Up to half of surgical-site infections after cardiac surgery are considered preventable. What prevents them is not one intervention, it is a sequence that begins weeks before the incision. The ERAS Cardiac Surgical-Site Infection Prevention Turnkey Order Set translates existing guideline and consensus recommendations into a sample order set spanning nasal screening through postoperative surveillance.Developed from AATS, EACTS, ACS/SIS, and CDC recommendations.Access to the ERAS Cardiac Virtual Education Center is free. Create an account to download the full Turnkey Order Set PDF and share it with your team. Patients on ECMO can be awake, extubated, and walking. Many centers still treat that as the exception rather than the goal.Episode 11 of The Cardiac Recovery Room covers patient selection, cannulation strategy, sedation, early mobilization, and building the team culture that makes ECMO ambulation possible.Link in bio to listen.#ERASCardiac #CardiacRecoveryRoom #CardiacSurgery #ECMO #CriticalCare
